“Organization and academics should not be at odds with one another, but rather should be synced.”
These are the remarks of Arief Rosyid, a 35-year-old independent Bank Syariah Indonesia commissioner (BSI). Arief began his career in 2004 as a dentistry student at Hasanuddin University. He has since held positions in several companies. According to him, the organization had a significant role in his present position.
The act of organizing had caused Arief to postpone college, which for some was odd and even absurd. However, he did so when he opted to take a nine-month college vacation after being appointed head of the Student Executive Board for the Faculty of Dentistry at Hasanuddin University.
When questioned about the most important experience in his life, Arief said, “I believe that this choice is really significant because, despite the fact that many believe I did an odd action, it justifies me today that this organization is highly valuable.”
His dedication to the organization did not end there. In 2010, he also served as general secretary of the HMI section of the Islamic Student Association. From 2010 to 2012, he chose to relocate to Jakarta and practice dentistry in a friend’s clinic for two years. When he pursued his postgraduate education, he regained trust. became general chairman of the HMI Executive Board from 2013 to 2015, until Jusuf Kalla requested him to join the Mosque Management Board in 2017. (DPM).
For Arief, organization is a stepping stone to the realization of his varied aspirations. With talents gained inside the business, he was even able to serve as a BSI commissioner despite having an education unrelated to the banking industry. Becoming an independent BSI commissioner was a fantasy he had never previously entertained. The 35-year-old said that he was still in shock, but his commitment to the role was undeniable, as shown by his passing a fitness and suitability examination.
“The folks that evaluated me were capable in economics, but I didn’t want to get mired in that field. I express my viewpoint; I do not want to be someone else. Alhamdulillah, I have graduated,” stated Arief on Thursday (3/3), as he was greeted at Roemah Lamaek.
Similar to previous journeys, Arief often meets a variety of obstacles while pursuing his objectives. Arief has unique obstacles in the field of banking, commonly described as a highly regulated business or an industry with such rigorous laws that every rupiah must be documented in every book. When he was at HMI, the reverse was true for him.
“However, I will always remember the words of my grandpa, the renowned theologian and former chairman of MUI IV, KH Ali Yafie. “He always stated that as young people, we need to know three things: who we are, where we are, and how to handle ourselves,” said Arief.
Arief is now finishing his PhD studies in the health policy study program at the University of Indonesia. The guy who was born in 1986 is also still engaged in numerous groups, one of which is the black wing, which consists of young people in public positions and serves as a platform for cooperating to find a solution to every issue in this nation.
“According to them, there are hundreds of millions of young people who can rock the globe and whom we must guide. Consequently, the government should take this issue more seriously, particularly the implementation of Presidential Decree No. 66 of 2017 on Cross-Sector Strategic Coordination of Youth Service Delivery “When asked about the government’s role in maximizing the existence of young people, Arief stated, “It’s not my job.”
Behind this accomplishment, Arief acknowledged that the Prophet Muhammad as a role model for every ummah was his greatest inspiration. In their life, Sultan Hasanuddin and Sheikh Yusuf Al-Makassar are also role models. The two notable people gave him the courage to become a person who is always helpful to others.
“In our world, nothing is immediate; everything requires a process, therefore we should not compare our lives to those of others. I want to underline that we must do our best, keep our honesty, and seek to increase our influence on everyone, ” Arief remarked.
